Senior Associate

Mary Burton is a Senior Associate at GSIS. Ms. Burton graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor of Arts in Diplomacy & Global Politics and Spanish. During her time at Miami of Ohio, Mary focused her studies on Terrorism and Eastern European studies. Many of her courses focused on counterterrorism tactics, mock European Council, anthropology, and linguistics.

Ms. Burton has previously worked as a Political Affairs Intern with the Borgen Project and as a Finance Intern for Amy McGrath’s campaign for US Congress in 2018. Mary has been fascinated by grassroots campaigns since she was introduced to the work as an Intern for Alison Lundergan Grimes’ campaign for US Senate in 2014.

Ms. Burton studied for a semester in Gijón, a coastal town in Asturias, Spain to deepen her cultural and linguistic approach to the language. She also spent 10 days walking El Camino de Santiago from Portugal to the north shore of Spain. Mary studied under the linguistic approach at Miami to develop a better historical understanding of all languages.
